10 Benefits of the Mountains

1. Mountains store the snow that falls until it is needed to drink from, or for rivers and to grow plants, fruit and medicines.
2. Mountains contain caves which are places of protection.
3. The stones are used for building and for tools.
4. There are minerals and rocks such as gold, silver, copper, iron, graphite, peridot and emeralds which can be more precious than gold and silver.
5. Mountains break the strength of stormy winds and protect inhabitants living at the foot of them from harm.
6. Mountains divert floods.
7. Mountains are fixed signposts which people use to guide them [Shooraa 42:32]
8. Medicinal plants from mountains are different from those grown on flat or sandy land.
9. Mountains are fortresses against enemies.
10. Mountains are like pegs on the earth to stabilise it and keep it firm.

 

The creation of the mountains is the greatest witness to the Creator’s Ability, Knowledge, Wisdom and Oneness. These mountains glorify and praise Allaah, they humble themselves to Him, prostrate, split asunder and fall down out of humility. They fear their Lord, their Creator even though they are strong and mighty. They declined to bear the trust and were afraid of Allaah [33:72].

 

Special Mountains

 

1.      The mountain upon which Allaah spoke to Moosa عليه السلام

2.      The mountain that was levelled to the ground when Allaah appeared to it [A’raaf 7:143]

3.      The mountain that loved the Prophet ﷺ who also loved it: Uhud.

4.      Two mountains that surround Allaah’s House (Ka’bah) in Makkah: Safa and Marwah.

5.      Mount Arafah, the Mount of Mercy. The greatest gathering happens there. How many sins forgiven there, etc.

6.      Mount Hiraa where revelation descended and the light spread all over the world.

 

Allaah specified whoever He willed from mountains and men with His Mercy and Honour.

 

The mountains will become dust on an appointed day.

4	7:143	But when his Lord appeared to the mountain, He rendered it level, and Moses fell unconscious.	فَلَمَّا تَجَلَّىٰ رَبُّهُ لِلْجَبَلِ جَعَلَهُ دَكًّا وَخَرَّ مُوسَىٰ صَعِقًا
5	7:171	And (remember) when We raised the mountain over them as if it had been a canopy, and they thought that it was going to fall on them.	وَإِذْ نَتَقْنَا الْجَبَلَ فَوْقَهُمْ كَأَنَّهُ ظُلَّةٌ
6	11:42	So it (the ship) sailed with them amidst the waves like mountains,	وَهِيَ تَجْرِي بِهِمْ فِي مَوْجٍ كَالْجِبَالِ
7	11:43	I will take refuge on a mountain to protect me from the water.	قَالَ سَآوِي إِلَىٰ جَبَلٍ يَعْصِمُنِي مِنَ الْمَاءِ
8	13:31	And if there had been a Quran with which mountains could be moved (from their places), or the earth could be cloven asunder, or the dead could be made to speak (it would not have been other than this Quran).	وَلَوْ أَنَّ قُرْآنًا سُيِّرَتْ بِهِ الْجِبَالُ أَوْ قُطِّعَتْ بِهِ الْأَرْضُ أَوْ كُلِّمَ بِهِ الْمَوْتَىٰ
9	14:46	Indeed, they planned their plot, and their plot was with Allah, though their plot was a great, it would never be able to remove the mountains from their places.	وَإِنْ كَانَ مَكْرُهُمْ لِتَزُولَ مِنْهُ الْجِبَالُ
10	15:82	And they used to carve from the mountains, houses, feeling secure.	وَكَانُوا يَنْحِتُونَ مِنَ الْجِبَالِ بُيُوتًا آمِنِينَ
11	16:68	And your Lord inspired the bee, saying: "Take you habitations in the mountains and in the trees and in what they erect.	وَأَوْحَىٰ رَبُّكَ إِلَى النَّحْلِ أَنِ اتَّخِذِي مِنَ الْجِبَالِ بُيُوتًا
12	16:81	And Allah has made for you out of that which He has created shades, and has made for you places of refuge in the mountains,	وَاللَّهُ جَعَلَ لَكُمْ مِمَّا خَلَقَ ظِلَالًا وَجَعَلَ لَكُمْ مِنَ الْجِبَالِ أَكْنَانًا
13	17:37	And walk not on the earth with conceit and arrogance. Verily, you can neither rend nor penetrate the earth, nor can you attain a stature like the mountains in height.	إِنَّكَ لَنْ تَخْرِقَ الْأَرْضَ وَلَنْ تَبْلُغَ الْجِبَالَ طُولًا
14	18:47	And (remember) the Day We shall cause the mountains to pass away (like clouds of dust), and you will see the earth as a levelled plain, and we shall gather them all together so as to leave not one of them behind.	وَيَوْمَ نُسَيِّرُ الْجِبَالَ وَتَرَى الْأَرْضَ بَارِزَةً وَحَشَرْنَاهُمْ فَلَمْ نُغَادِرْ مِنْهُمْ أَحَدًا
15	19:90	Whereby the heavens are almost torn, and the earth is split asunder, and the mountains fall in ruins,	تَكَادُ السَّمَاوَاتُ يَتَفَطَّرْنَ مِنْهُ وَتَنْشَقُّ الْأَرْضُ وَتَخِرُّ الْجِبَالُ هَدًّا
16	20:105	And they ask you concerning the mountains, say; "My Lord will blast them and scatter them as particles of dust.	وَيَسْأَلُونَكَ عَنِ الْجِبَالِ فَقُلْ يَنْسِفُهَا رَبِّي نَسْفًا
17	21:79	And We subjected the mountains and the birds to glorify Our Praises along with Dawud (David), And it was We Who were the doers (of all these things).	وَسَخَّرْنَا مَعَ دَاوُودَ الْجِبَالَ يُسَبِّحْنَ وَالطَّيْرَ
18	22:18	See you not that to Allah prostrates whoever is in the heavens and whoever is on the earth, and the sun, and the moon, and the stars, and the mountains, and the trees, and moving living creatures and many of mankind?	أَلَمْ تَرَ أَنَّ اللَّهَ يَسْجُدُ لَهُ مَنْ فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَمَنْ فِي الْأَرْضِ وَالشَّمْسُ وَالْقَمَرُ وَالنُّجُومُ وَالْجِبَالُ
19	24:43	And He sends down from the sky hail (like) mountains and He strikes therewith whom He wills, and averts it from whom He wills.	وَيُنَزِّلُ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ مِنْ جِبَالٍ فِيهَا مِنْ بَرَدٍ
20	26:149	And you carve houses out of mountains with great skill.	وَتَنْحِتُونَ مِنَ الْجِبَالِ بُيُوتًا فَارِهِينَ
21	27:88	And you will see the mountains and think them solid, but they shall pass away as the passing away of the clouds.	وَتَرَى الْجِبَالَ تَحْسَبُهَا جَامِدَةً وَهِيَ تَمُرُّ مَرَّ السَّحَابِ
22	33:72	Truly, We did offer the trust to the heavens and the earth, and the mountains, but they declined to bear it and were afraid (of Allah's Torment). But man bore it. Verily, he was unjust (to himself) and ignorant (of its results).	إِنَّا عَرَضْنَا الْأَمَانَةَ عَلَى السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَالْجِبَالِ فَأَبَيْنَ أَنْ يَحْمِلْنَهَا
23	34:10	And indeed We bestowed grace on David from Us (saying): "O you mountains. Glorify (Allah) with him! And you birds (also)! And We made the iron soft for him."	وَلَقَدْ آتَيْنَا دَاوُودَ مِنَّا فَضْلًا يَا جِبَالُ أَوِّبِي مَعَهُ وَالطَّيْرَ
24	35:27	and among the mountains are streaks white and red, of varying colours and (others) very black.	وَمِنَ الْجِبَالِ جُدَدٌ بِيضٌ وَحُمْرٌ مُخْتَلِفٌ أَلْوَانُهَا وَغَرَابِيبُ سُودٌ
25	38:18	Verily, We made the mountains to glorify Our Praises with him [Dawud] in the afternoon and the morning.	إِنَّا سَخَّرْنَا الْجِبَالَ مَعَهُ يُسَبِّحْنَ بِالْعَشِيِّ وَالْإِشْرَاقِ
26	52:10	And the mountains will move away with a (horrible) movement.	وَتَسِيرُ الْجِبَالُ سَيْرًا
27	56:5	And the mountains will be powdered to dust.	وَبُسَّتِ الْجِبَالُ بَسًّا
28	59:21	Had We sent down this Quran on a mountain, you would surely have seen it humbling itself and rending asunder by the fear of Allah.	لَوْ أَنْزَلْنَا هَٰذَا الْقُرْآنَ عَلَىٰ جَبَلٍ لَرَأَيْتَهُ خَاشِعًا مُتَصَدِّعًا مِنْ خَشْيَةِ اللَّهِ
29	69:14	And the earth and the mountains shall be removed from their places, and crushed with a single crushing,	وَحُمِلَتِ الْأَرْضُ وَالْجِبَالُ فَدُكَّتَا دَكَّةً وَاحِدَةً
30	70:9	And the mountains will be like flakes of wool,	وَتَكُونُ الْجِبَالُ كَالْعِهْنِ
31	73:14	On the Day when the earth and the mountains will be in violent shake,	يَوْمَ تَرْجُفُ الْأَرْضُ وَالْجِبَالُ
32	73:14	and the mountains will be a heap of sand poured out and flowing down.	وَكَانَتِ الْجِبَالُ كَثِيبًا مَهِيلًا
33	77:10	And when the mountains are blown away;	وَإِذَا الْجِبَالُ نُسِفَتْ
34	78:7	And the mountains as pegs?	وَالْجِبَالَ أَوْتَادًا
35	78:20	And the mountains shall be moved away from their places and they will be as if they were a mirage.	وَسُيِّرَتِ الْجِبَالُ فَكَانَتْ سَرَابًا
36	79:32	And the mountains He has fixed firmly;	وَالْجِبَالَ أَرْسَاهَا
37	81:3	And when the mountains shall made to pass away;	وَإِذَا الْجِبَالُ سُيِّرَتْ
38	88:19	And at the mountains, how they are rooted and fixed firm?	وَإِلَى الْجِبَالِ كَيْفَ نُصِبَتْ
39	101:5	And the mountains will be like carded wool	وَتَكُونُ الْجِبَالُ كَالْعِهْنِ الْمَنْفُوشِ
40	13:3	And it is He Who spread out the earth, and placed therein firm mountains and rivers	وَهُوَ الَّذِي مَدَّ الْأَرْضَ وَجَعَلَ فِيهَا رَوَاسِيَ وَأَنْهَارًا
41	15:19	And the earth We spread out, and placed therein firm mountains,	وَالْأَرْضَ مَدَدْنَاهَا وَأَلْقَيْنَا فِيهَا رَوَاسِيَ وَأَنبَتْنَا فِيهَا مِن كُلِّ شَيْءٍ مَّوْزُونٍ
42	16:15	And He has affixed into the earth mountains standing firm, lest it should shake with you, and rivers and roads, that you may guide yourselves.	وَأَلْقَىٰ فِي الْأَرْضِ رَوَاسِيَ أَن تَمِيدَ بِكُمْ وَأَنْهَارًا وَسُبُلًا لَّعَلَّكُمْ تَهْتَدُونَ
43	21:31	And We have placed on the earth firm mountains, lest it should shake with them, and We placed therein broad highways for them to pass through, that they may be guided.	وَجَعَلْنَا فِي الْأَرْضِ رَوَاسِيَ أَن تَمِيدَ بِهِمْ وَجَعَلْنَا فِيهَا فِجَاجًا سُبُلًا لَّعَلَّهُمْ يَهْتَدُونَ
44	27:61	Is not He (better than your gods) Who has made the earth as a fixed abode, and has placed rivers in its midst, and has placed firm mountains therein	أَمَّن جَعَلَ الْأَرْضَ قَرَارًا وَجَعَلَ خِلَالَهَا أَنْهَارًا وَجَعَلَ لَهَا رَوَاسِيَ
45	31:10	He has created the heavens without any pillars, that you see and has set on the earth firm mountains, lest it should shake with you.	خَلَقَ السَّمَاوَاتِ بِغَيْرِ عَمَدٍ تَرَوْنَهَا ۖ وَأَلْقَىٰ فِي الْأَرْضِ رَوَاسِيَ أَن تَمِيدَ بِكُمْ
46	41:10	He placed therein (i.e. the earth) firm mountains from above it	وَجَعَلَ فِيهَا رَوَاسِيَ مِن فَوْقِهَا
47	50:7	And the earth! We have spread it out, and set thereon mountains standing firm	وَالْأَرْضَ مَدَدْنَاهَا وَأَلْقَيْنَا فِيهَا رَوَاسِيَ
48	77:27	And have placed therein firm, and tall mountains; and have given you to drink sweet water?	وَجَعَلْنَا فِيهَا رَوَاسِيَ شَامِخَاتٍ وَأَسْقَيْنَاكُم مَّاءً
