Benefits of the Mountains
By Shaykhul Islaam
Ibnul Qayyim
- Mountains store the snow that falls until it is
needed to drink from, or for rivers and to grow plants, fruit and
medicines.
- Mountains contain caves which are places of
protection.
- The stones are used for building and for tools.
- There are minerals and rocks such as gold, silver,
copper, iron, graphite, peridot and emeralds which can be more precious
than gold and silver.
- Mountains break the strength of stormy winds and protect
inhabitants living at the foot of them from harm.
- Mountains divert floods.
- Mountains are fixed signposts which people use to
guide them [Shooraa 42:32]
- Medicinal plants from mountains are different from
those grown on flat or sandy land.
- Mountains are fortresses against enemies.
- Mountains are like pegs on the earth to stabilise
it and keep it firm.
The creation of the mountains is
the greatest witness to the Creator’s Ability, Knowledge, Wisdom and Oneness. These
mountains glorify and praise Allaah, they humble themselves to Him, prostrate,
split asunder and fall down out of humility. They fear their Lord, their
Creator even though they are strong and mighty. They declined to bear the trust
and were afraid of Allaah [33:72].
